If you own a repair shop, represent a dealership . . . or for that matter work for a manufacturer or distributorship, this category might be fun to read and respond to. I’m going to leave most of the commentary to the posts (so you have an opportunity to respond) . . . but I’ll just say one thing: I think the linear approach that an MBA takes to ‘improve’ service department profits has almost destroyed the business as far as the new car dealership is concerned. Manufacturer ‘guidance’ in service operations has virtually destroyed long term customer retention and created a considerable business opportunity for the small independent shop.
